Sustainability
Sisaltech produces one of the lowest carbon, high-quality sustainable thermal insulation products on the market. The company always aims to buy the most sustainable and circular inputs, and are actively trying to gain a fair trade certification for the relevant parts of their chain. Their manufacturing process uses approximately 80% renewable energy, most of which is from wind turbines.

The primary materials they use to make their insulation products are recycled wool and sisal fibre, 94% natural fibre in total. Sisal is a species of flowering plant, native to southern Mexico. It yields a stiff and sturdy fibre, ideal for making ropes and other such products. Through experimentation, Sisaltech found that this fibre has excellent thermal qualities, making it the ideal choice for insulation products. They also actively recycle used sisal fibre into new products, and use a starch-based binder to ensure all offcuts are compostable. Therefore, all materials are recycled or recycled back into the process, leaving little to no waste throughout. All of Sisaltech’s products can be returned to the company at the end of their lives to be recycled and shredded for further use.

Sisaltech creates natural fibre insulation products which enable an easy switch to low carbon building materials, while offering increased safety and comfort to installers. They always have sustainability at the forefront of all their decisions, and consciously make every effort to be as low carbon and ethical as possible.

Sisaltech

Sisaltech is making natural fibre insulation for both new homes and old. Their insulation is made from sisal, a highly sustainable fibre crop grown organically by small-scale farmers in east Africa. The company was founded by John Ferguson in 2012 when he was working with small-scale farmers in Tanzania. It was there he discovered the sustainable thermal properties of sisal, and now they produce one of the lowest carbon, high-quality sustainable thermal insulation products on the market today.
