foli8UK Snake Plant
High quality, sustainable house plants in a coconut coir pot that is 100% natural, compostable and renewable.
Snake Plant, or Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii', is an erect plant with long, leathery, sword-shaped leaves emerging in clumps from underground rhizomes, or stems. Snake Plants are closely related to Dracaenas (they are sometimes classified as a Dracaena). The leaves are strongly variegated and can be up to 1 m long. Small, simple, fragrant white flowers are produced, but these are seldom noticeable.
Sansevieria trifasciata is one of approximately seventy species of Sansevieria (now classified as species of Dracaena), all of which are evergreen perennials native to the semi-deserts of southern and western Africa. The leaf fibres can be used to make ropes and the bowstrings of musical instruments.
Sansevieria is named after an Austrian prince of Sanseriero. They were introduced to Europe in the late seventeenth century.
