Description

Milk paint is a re-creation of an ancient homemade formula, used for centuries before the introduction of commercially made latex paints. Milk paint is the most durable paint available on porous surfaces, meaning its colour will not fade over time. It can be sealed with Old Fashioned Milk Paint's flat varnish, wax, or oil.

As milk paint contains only natural ingredients such as milk protein, lime and earth pigments, it is completely non-toxic, baby-safe, food-safe and biodegradable.

Sustainability
Old Fashioned Milk paint is run by a small, family dynamic which helps keep their process localised and traditional. Their studio and products are both United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Biobased, and California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) certified. This means their paint is made from biological products sourced through organic and raw materials, and it doesn’t include any food, feed, or fuel. Milk Paint uses the original recipe discovered in 1974 by Charles Thibeau, but the idea of milk paint has existed for thousands of years.

The primary materials used in the milk paint are Casein (milk proteins), lime, and earth pigments. This means that the paint they make is eco friendly, non-toxic, VOC-free, food-safe, and biodegradable, and it contains no chemicals, preservatives, fungicides, hydrocarbons or any other petroleum derivatives. Milk paint is known to be one of the world’s most durable paints, meaning it won’t chip or peel, and its rich colour won’t fade over time. Milk paint is perfect to use for those with chemical sensitivities, or even for your children’s toys.
