Key Values
The Sona Checkerboard is one of One Nine Eight Five's newest checkerboard designs.
The Sona Checkerboard Throw is made from organic cotton, saved from garment factories. This material is broken down into fibre and then respun into yarn. Woven, brushed, and sewn, the Sona Checkerboard Throw is made using traditional techniques in British mills. This traditional blanket stitching offsets the tactile and soft fabric, making it perfect to get cosy with on the sofa.

Eleanor always makes sure to source her materials from local makers here in the UK. Sustaining traditional craftsmanship is important to One Nine Eight Five, and working in this way helps boost the local economy, and keeps the manufacturing process localised. All of their materials are made in the UK, and regular visits are made to the makers to ensure safe conditions and fair wages.
All of One Nine Eight Five’s throws are crafted using either recycled cotton or recycled wool, salvaged from offcuts in garment making factories. These off-cuts are broken down into usable fibre, and then hand-finished using traditional techniques. At the end of their lifetime, throws made from wool will biodegrade naturally. Increasingly more of their cushions are also being printed onto recycled cotton.
One Nine Eight Five works closely with Beat, the UK’s charity for helping those suffering from eating disorders. 15% of all profits from their Woman Collection is donated to this charity, with the aim of raising awareness about the pressures of growing up in a society which obsesses over unrealistic concepts of what is beautiful, and what is not.
